23 Healthy Seafood Recipes (With Their SmartPoints Values!)

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then surely seafood is a Weight Watcher’s best friend!

I have always been a big fan of seafood, shellfish and fish, ever since I was a little girl growing up in Roscoe, New York, AKA “Trout Town, USA!”

I left baiting the hook to my dad, but I was always fascinated with how they would stuff whole trout with fresh herbs and lemon slices and make the most delicious dinner!

Now I incorporate seafood into my menus at least two or three times a week, because it’s delicious but also because it’s such a low SmartPoint choice!

As part of our collaboration with Skinnytaste, Emily Bites and Simple Nourished Living, we’ve been featuring a different collection of recipes each Friday. Stay tuned throughout the Winter for more Weight Watchers-friendly recipes from our friends!

But now, I give you 23 of my favorite seafood recipes, with their SmartPoints values:

Practicing Moderation: Having My Cosmos & Eating Dinner, Too!

The first couple weeks of the new year is always a challenge for me, but I like to shake off the excesses of the holiday season and get back to the business of losing weight!

I spent a lot of time this weekend testing out new foods, figuring out some new recipes to keep me full and satisfied, all while providing enough variety to keep me from getting bored!

One of the questions I get asked the most is “What do you eat?”

The short answer is “Everything!”

Through Weight Watchers, nothing is off-limits to me. Counting points, or eating from the no count food list, is all about moderation.

On Monday someone delivered an Edible Arrangement to my office, and I ate a chocolate covered strawberry, because I could. Last week we had a seafood sauté for dinner and I had a piece of toasted Kalamata olive bread. Because I could, sure, but also because it’s delicious!

On Wednesday, Mr. Big and I split a New York strip steak, which is one of my favorite dinners. Again, the steak fit in my plan, so I ate it!

But let me tell you what also happened on those days, to make those foods I really wanted possible:

On Monday when I have the chocolate covered strawberry, I ate no-count fruit for my snack in the afternoon, rather than veggies and dip.

I knew we had the olive bread in the house (because I bought it) so I designed a seafood dinner that was low in Smart Points so I could enjoy a piece.

And on Wednesday when we enjoyed a New York strip steak for dinner, I had a plain salad, rather than an appetizer, and I exchanged the potatoes on our dinner for sautéed spinach.

I could have eaten six chocolate covered strawberries, but one was a nice treat. I could’ve eaten the olive bread with a big bowl of pasta, but the fresh seafood sautéed in a spicy red sauce was a perfect complement to the salty bread. And I could’ve had mashed potatoes or a big appetizer, but I chose to eat the thing that was important to me (hello the steak!) and built the rest of my meal around it.

If you have been craving the mashed potatoes more than the steak , start your menu plan with those, and swap in a lower smart point protein, like chicken or turkey. If it’s a bowl of pasta you want, try having some fish for lunch, to help balance out your intake.

On Sundays before I hit the grocery store, I take a look at the week ahead. What night am I working late? What nights is Mr. Big in meetings? Do I have events, or lunches out of the office?

I also ask myself what I have been craving, what great new recipe I want to try, or what meal is going to go best, considering what is fresh and available this time of year?

Then I design a menu plan for my lunches and dinners that incorporates all the things I love, or the things that I’ve been craving, while keeping me on point!

By planning ahead and practicing moderation, I’m able to have my cosmos and eat dinner, too!

THE BEST WAYS TO BRUNCH HEALTHIER (22 RECIPES WITH THEIR SMART POINTS)

brunch

I heart a good three-day weekend because it means double the opportunities for my favorite meal: BRUNCH!

It’s the most social meal going, you can have savory OR sweet OR both and it’s one of the few places where it’s acceptable to drink champagne in the morning.

But brunch can be a real bummer on a weight loss journey UNLESS you figure out a way to have your champagne and eat your eggs, too! Working with my friends from SkinnyTaste, Emily Bites and Simple Nourished Living on our treasure trove of recipes, I’m bringing you my favorite ways to brunch successfully, broken down into Sweet, Savory, Egg-Based and Cocktail!

29 Healthy Winter Recipes (And Their Smart Points Values!)

Some day I just wish there was a master list of good stuff to eat. How much easier would it be if I could just pick stuff off the list, and know it was good?
But alas, no such list exists. And then I thought, what’s the old expression from that baseball movie every man loves?

“If you build it, they will come!”

So I’m working with the lovely ladies behind Skinnytaste, EmilyBites  and Simple Nourished Living to bring you a new list of fun, delicious recipes each Friday. How cool is that?!

Roasted Meats

One thing I was not prepared for after losing weight was how cold I am, all the time! All of those extra layers of fat may have been unhealthy, but they kept me warm for years! LOL
So when I’m home on the weekends, I love to roast meat in the oven because it smells fantastic, it tastes delicious and of course, it makes the house so much warmer!

Here are some of my favorite roasting recipes:

Soups & Stews

I don’t know about you, but when I eat food that is heated up or warm, I stay more satisfied and fuller longer. I’m sure there’s some science behind it, but it’s just what works for me. I love to make up a big pot of soup to eat throughout the week. Now, I know weight watchers has a few zero Point soups that you can have, but I am here to tell you that I think you’re super should have some points, namely from lean proteins, beans and legumes like lentils! Those items will help keep you satisfied until your next meal.

Casseroles

So Mr. Big, despite being raised in an Italian home, does not appreciate baked pastas or casseroles. This usually makes me sad, because how much easier would be to just throw together a casserole and reheat? But the only thing he likes less than casseroles are leftovers, and I’m not sure I want to spend a week eating a 9 x 11 pan of anything, either. LOL
But there are those occasions when he will give into my desire to make a big pan of something, or when we are going to a buffet or potluck where everybody is bringing something, and in those moments are usually choose one of the following:
Cheeseburger Casserole

Tuna Casserole
